THE STORY
Cuba’s golden-age sound, alive in the nation’s capital.
Son Cubano Subterraneo began with a shared love of son cubano—the guitar-and-percussion tradition at the heart of much of modern salsa—and a desire to make that music feel immediate, social and alive. The result is a six-piece ensemble with the depth of a concert band and the instinct of a great dance band.
The sound combines Cuban tres, guitar and violin, baby bass, congas, bongos, hand percussion and rich vocals. Together, those voices create music that can be intimate and elegant one moment, propulsive and celebratory the next.
Based in Washington, DC, the band performs for festivals, museums, clubs, municipal concert series, weddings, corporate events and private celebrations. Wherever the setting, the aim is the same: honor the music, connect with the room and make the experience unforgettable.

THE HEART OF THE SOUND
The music that helped give rise to salsa.
Son cubano brings together guitar-based song traditions, Afro-Cuban rhythm, call-and-response vocals and a deep sense of swing. It can be graceful, earthy, romantic or explosive—and its rhythmic language became one of the foundations of modern salsa. Son Cubano Subterraneo stays rooted in that tradition while presenting it with the energy and openness of a contemporary live ensemble.
THE SIX-PIECE ENSEMBLE
Steven Falcon — Lead Vocals & Hand Percussion
A Cuban-born vocalist and magnetic frontman whose performance experience spans stages around the world. Steven brings warmth, authority and an instinctive connection with the audience.
Eduardo Padua — Bongos & Hand Percussion
Eduardo adds detail, lift and rhythmic conversation through bongos, güiro and hand percussion.
Josh Schneck — Bandleader & Cuban Tres
Josh leads the ensemble, shapes the repertoire and arrangements, and works closely with presenters and event clients to create the right musical experience for each setting.
Fran Vielma — Congas
Fran brings depth, drive and a wide rhythmic vocabulary to the band’s percussion foundation.
Matvei Sigalov — Guitar & Violin
Matvei moves between rhythmic foundation and melodic color, expanding the band’s sound with both guitar and violin.
Gabriel Vivas — Baby Bass
Gabriel anchors the ensemble with a warm, propulsive bass sound that keeps the groove grounded and moving.

A deep songbook with room to move
The band’s repertoire draws from music associated with Buena Vista Social Club, Beny Moré, Arsenio Rodríguez, Celia Cruz, Tito Puente, Oscar D’León and other legendary artists. Sets can move through son, salsa, bolero, Latin jazz, cumbia, merengue, romantic ballads and unexpected favorites—shaped around the audience and occasion.
ON STAGE

Selected appearances include the DC Jazz Festival, the Smithsonian National Museum of African Art’s Sounds of Africa concert series, Pearl Street Warehouse, Lubber Run Amphitheater, Clarendon Central Park, Bossa and Takoma Station Tavern, along with weddings, corporate gatherings and cultural events throughout the region.
